Why You Can't Lose Weight

For those of you who don't know me I'm a personal trainer who gives diet and weight loss advice. I preach exercise, nutrition and self control... but 99% of the time nobody listens so I feel like I waste my breath. But being someone who never gives up (or rarely gives up at least) I'm going to try one more time with this blog.

Why You Can't Lose Weight



The diet and weight loss industry is a billion dollar industry, and they aren't all rich because what they sell you is useful and will help you lose weight, they are rich because what they sell you is crap and very rarely helps you actually lose weight.

Think of all the weight loss products there are out there... nutrisystem, medifast, the total gym, atkins, gym memberships... the list goes on and on and on, and if you turn on a TV any time after 11PM you'll see literally hundreds of infomercials per might all selling you something that will give you rockin abs in 3 seconds or your money back all for three easy payments of $99.95.

You want to lose weight? Here's how you do it.

You Eat Like Crap



Stop eating crap. Oh don't act all high and mighty and pretend you eat nothing but salad and tofu... you eat too much junk. WE ALL eat too much junk and it's gotta stop. Seriously, if you cut out a few sodas, a couple beers and a few slices of pizza a week you probably wouldn't have to do anything else and you would still lose weight. Wouldn't that be easy? Self control my friend.

You Don't Eat Enough Veggies



Yea I know, veggies taste like crap, you're allergic to them and you're tormented because your mom made you eat brussell sprouts when you were six. Boo hoo. Well guess what? You're not 20 anymore and you need to eat your veggies or you will get fat. Yea, I said it... every meal can't be pizza ok?

As you get older (and usually fatter) you'll find that veggies give you more energy and make you feel more full so you don't eat as much crap (see step #1 about eating crap).

You Don't Exercise Enough



Get off your butt! And don't pretend like you never sit down because you're reading this to learn how to lose weight instead of actually getting out there and taking a walk right? You know what to do... put on your running shoes and run, go swim, jump up and down... whatever gets your pulse racing (which could be some very fun things by the way... but this is a family blog). If you exercise you will lose weight. Put down the twinkies and the diet books and read that again. If you exercise YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.

That's pretty much it. Notice that I didn't try to sell you some fancy ab belt or mystery supplement discovered in lab tests that magically melts fat or a book that breaks down all the secrets to real weight loss. You know why? Because REAL weight loss is done by hard work and nothing else. So get off your butt and do it.
